About this item

  • Craspedia globosa, also known as Billy Button or Drumstick, is a distinctive annual flower native to New Zealand, Australia and Tasmania, but can be grown as an annual plant in Zones 3 - 10.
  • Billy Button is great for cutting and drying. It is a popular dried addition to arrangements. The plants can grow up to 24 inches tall with bright yellow flower heads.
  • To start growing in the spring, plant the seeds indoors 4 – 6 weeks before the last expected frost date. Press the seeds into soil, lightly cover with peat moss or garden sand, and keep the soil moist. Germination typically occurs in 21 days with a temperature range of 70 - 75F.
  • After the last expected frost and when there are 2 sets of true leaves, transplant the young plants outdoors. Billy Button thrives in full sun.
  • Sow 3 - 4 seeds per plant and then thin or space 12 inches apart.
